To see how the backup capability works, suppose you have made several changes to a path diagram, saving it (using 
) multiple times in a file called alpha.amw. Then the most recently saved version of the path diagram is called alpha.amw. The version before that is called alpha.bk1. The version before alpha.bk1 is called alpha.bk2. And so on. You can specify as many as nine backups (the oldest version would then have a name that ends with .bk9), or you can specify that no backups be kept.
